EBC – The Real Bali – Cooking in Our Village
When most visitors think of Bali, they picture beaches, temples and rice terraces. But the real heart of Bali is found in its villages, where family traditions are passed down from generation to generation.
These photos show a busy day in Kris’ village as family members prepare food for an upcoming ceremony. Cooking is a shared activity, with everyone helping—from grandparents to children. Traditional dishes are often cooked over wood fires, while family members prepare rice, vegetables, meats and ceremonial foods together.
One beautiful Balinese tradition is placing a Canang Sari offering in the kitchen before cooking begins. This small offering is a prayer of gratitude and asks for blessings, safety and harmony within the home. It reminds families to be thankful for the food they have and the people they share it with.
These everyday moments are rarely seen by tourists, but they are an important part of Balinese life.
