2. Learn about Balinese culture at Experience Bali Culture
Experience Bali Culture (EBC) is a hands-on workshop run by Komang, a lovely young woman from a rural Balinese village who now lives in Kuta.
During our two-hour session, she gave us fascinating insights into life in her village and told us all about Balinese culture, beliefs, and traditions.
Even as seasoned visitors, we were surprised by many interesting new facts and even picked up a little Bahasa too. We loved hearing Komang’s first-hand stories, especially about her village’s unique beliefs surrounding twins.
In the first half of the workshop, Komang shared photos and videos on a screen and answered all of our questions about Bali.
The most interesting part for us was learning about traditional Balinese shamans and black magic — although you might want to skip this section if children are present as it’s a little eerie.
The second half of the workshop was more interactive and hands-on. We got to try traditional jamu, learn how to make the daily offerings, and even tried on traditional Balinese outfits for some photos.
Komang are her family were so lovely and extremely passionate about sharing their culture with guests. We loved the experience and think her workshop is a fantastic new addition to Kuta!
